We welcome​ you ​to​ ​TYC Yoga Teacher Training Institute and Virtual Wellness Studio.  We are so happy you found us.  We are an online community passionate about spirituality, personal growth, transformation, self care and celebration. Our community is online, live, interactive and most of all, supportive. 

TYC Yoga Teacher Training Institute and Virtual Wellness Studio all began with The Yoga Channel.  A cozy,​ ​little​ ​brick and mortar boutique yoga​ ​studio, located at​ ​beautiful​ ​Silver​ ​Strand​ ​Beach​ ​in​ ​Oxnard,​ ​California, just minutes from Ventura, Camarillo and Port Hueneme.  Maribeth​ ​Hammond​ ​founded​ ​the​ ​Yoga​ ​Channel​ ​in​ ​2001.   In 2017 our Founder, Aurora Heinemann, became the Steward of The Yoga Channel and directed the studio from 2017 through January 2021.

That very first year, the Thomas Fire hit the local area, as did multiple natural disaster fires during the years following.  In March 2020, the pandemic hit, and The Yoga Channel's doors were ordered closed for 3 weeks. Today, April 30th, 2021, they are still not open.

Within 48 hours of The Yoga Channel's brick and mortar business ordered shut down, Aurora had livestream yoga classes up and running on Zoom.  The studio didn't skip a beat. However, multiple streams of income were lost and the livestream classes, just barely covered the studio's monthly bills. TYC Yoga Teacher Training Institue and Virtual Wellness Studio is the virtual spinoff of brick and mortar studio, The Yoga Channel.

After a very traumatic and exhausting 10 months, Aurora left the physical studio in the hands of Nathan and Amber. Aurora and Nathan actually completed their 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training together many moons ago at The Yoga Channel. Aurora and Nathan both taught multiple weekly yoga classes at The Yoga Channel, so Aurora knew The Yoga Channel community would be in good hands. Amber, Nathan's partner, took on the back end work and Nathan continues to teach his popular Yin Yoga, Gentle Yoga and Restorative Yoga Classes.

Why Trauma Aware Yoga Teacher Training?

The short answer is because it is about damn time. The  longer answer unfolds below. But first, a question for you:  

In this time of heightened anxiety and stress in the world,  what draws you to the teachings and the practice of yoga?

This is not an idle question. It’s supremely important that  we attempt to understand ourselves before we undertake  the instruction of others... Even if the understanding we  have of Us is imperfect... Even if we question our  questions... Even if (maybe especially if) we hope that the  instruction we seek will help us to answer those questions  for ourselves. 

The word Yoga in Sanskrit (a language that you will  become more and more familiar with if you continue on  this path), is generally translated to mean Union. This  refers to the harmony and balance between the mind,  body, emotions and spirit. We emphasize the word  emotions here, because it is not a part of the generally  accepted definition - however, our emotions (called vrtti’s  Sanskrit) exist on a plane different from our body and  mind, and yet affect both. We may be completely detached  from our emotions, not really present to what we are  feeling, but if we’re brought to awareness of our mental  state or our physical state, we can easily see our peacefulness or our dysregulation. Because emotion  affects us. All of us. It is also affected By our thoughts and  our physical comfort and also a lack of comfort.

The questions were designed for reflection, not a diagnosis. Using the tools of yoga therapy to heal trauma requires a willingness to look at “what’s happening now” as a way of better understanding yourself and learning to give yourself the best possible care and comfort in any given moment.
